Getting A Second Wind: New Blog Series

Getting A Second Wind

written by: Camille Angela Cadacio

There are storms, sometimes, even the best cannot weather. There are hurricanes even the strongest trees can not stand. Sometimes when the wind swirls around you, it knocks you off too. But always at the end of a rainy, windy storm, a second wind.

I remember the very reason I hated going to medical school before, was when people told me, "Once you enter medical school, it's everything that you are from then on." Sometimes other people's perspective gets to you deep, and changes a whole decision that is supposed to be yours to think about. That's why I keep other people's comments to a minimum, and ultimately listen to facts. Facts that people in medicine aren't actually robots, but contain stories worth telling to other people. Like any other interesting creature, they hold a wand of whims - things they pursue amidst the storm. These stories call for a simple audience willing to be inspired, and to look at the sunset and sunrise. That life in medicine, no matter how rigid, opens a whole door of magic too. In each person's hands, a whole galaxy is painted, awaiting for someone to read. Definitely, in medical school, everything is not rote.

So I'm opening a new series in this blog!  Getting A Second Wind, an idiom that speaks of a recharge after something tiring. I decided this to be the perfect title of a series that speaks of a telling of quiet whispers of medical students pursuing things other than medicine. Their second wind within a storm. It's all about hobbies, advocacy, and passion projects they pursue - hopefully to inspire you to never leave your talents behind, regardless of the storm medical school brings (or even if you're not in medical school).

Remember, when life gives you a storm, there's always a second wind coming that you can control. From then, you'll fly a kite, and lust in the wonder of what lies ahead. Happy flying!
